About this School Project (2nd Grade Birch Tree Collage)
After looking at pictures of birch trees in nature at different times of day during different seasons, students created their bark texture by stamping/scraping black paint across their paper. The unique background for their tree setting was inspired by George Seurat and pointillism. Using a stippling technique, students chose a brush stroke to repeat over and over layering each area in color. We put it all together by cutting out trees, adding branches and details with a variety of trees shapes and sizes. For a final touch, we smudged charcoal to create shadows.
