About this School Project (Pinch Pot Creatures)
Second grade sculptors set about creating a creature out of clay, starting with a base of a pinch pot. After discussing the historical uses of clay; students learned out key clay terms like kiln, glaze, firing, and the stages of clay. Second graders then worked on a plan for creature, which has been added to show the changes or similarities to the final product. They had to circle areas that two pieces of clay needed to be attached, and practiced the "Four S" rule: score, slip, stick, and smooth.
