About this School Project (Rousseau Inspired Patterned Animal Names)
Fifth grade artists drew their names in block or bubble letters and then filled them with a chosen pattern of an animal found in the rain forest, jungle or African plains. Next, artists employed Visual Thinking Strategies to explore and discuss Henri Rousseau’s Exotic Landscape. After discussing what environment means, students filled the background with an appropriate environment using colored pencils, crayons and oil pastel to depict a variety of leaves and foliage. Inspired by Rousseau, a hidden object may be found within the background environment. Students also included a factual and fantasy writing component that describes a day in the life of their chosen animal.
