About this School Project (3rd- Birds)
God has created beautiful creatures great and small! As students were studying birds in class, we took some time in art class to learn more about John James Audubon, and how sculptures are created. Mr. Audubon was the first person to truly discover migration by tagging birds to track them. He documented, in a unique way, the details of many birds. I highly recommend taking your student to the NCMA to view a copy of his Birds of America book! We then talked about sculpture and how to create an armature, the inside structure, out of magazine pages and tape. We viewed a couple historical photos of the Statue of Liberty being constructed to see the process. Adding plaster cloth and painting were our last steps. Ask your student how FORM is different from SHAPE.
Genesis 1:21
So God created the great sea creatures and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarm, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
