About this School Project (1st- Heart Quilt Square Weaving)
Our first grade artists learned a lot through this project! They first learned about non-objective (only line, shape and color) paintings and created two of them. Then the artists learned how to create a paper weaving, cutting a warp and loom from one painting, weaving in the second painting. Next, we reviewed what we have already learned about the art element of SPACE this year, and added on to that knowledge with positive and negative space. The artists were amazed by how positive and negative space can be used to create optical illusions as well! They cut out a symmetrical heart, glueing it to the weaving. Finally, we learned a little about sewing and "stitched" yarn around the outside edge to finish up our "quilt square" some of these will be collected to hang as a quilt in a hallway display!
