About this School Project (Slab clay project (First grade))
Students learned new clay techniques and used new tools to create a 3D animal face. Students first sketched out what they wanted to make for an animal and then using clay slab building techniques they brought their image to life. They had to roll out their clay and trace out a circle for the head and then used a variety of tools and hand building to create the eyes, nose, mouth, ears and any other little extras. They also learned a scratch and attach method to score and use slip to attach pieces together.
