About this School Project (Gyotaku)
Students explored the ancient Japanese art of Gyotaku, which translates to fish and impression. We learned about the ancient art form and why it was used - finding that it was a way for fishermen to record their catches to reference size and type of fish. They then created a background through an oil pastel resist to create bubbles on a marker print, finally compiling all the pieces together through a collage method.
