Artist Statement (what Kendall9840 said about their artwork)
In my artwork, I used contrast to emphasize the focal point, with strong highlights bringing attention to key details. To create depth and texture, I incorporated hatching, cross-hatching, and stippling—each adding unique shading effects that helped develop the overall value of the piece. Inspired by Melissa Helene and Nico Delort, I aimed to refine my shading techniques, though I found some areas challenging to blend smoothly. My favorite part of the artwork is the realistic texture achieved through careful shading, but I would improve certain uneven areas if I recreated it. I learned about Kerby Rosanes who is a great, young artist who focuses on scratch art because he does not like color. I learned how different techniques influence depth. I drew this picture based off of a joke between me and a friend who is also a an artist and is in this class. We turned my brother into a new evil/opposite version of Matthew. His name is "Hobo Joe", I based it off of how he lives in the city so he sees the city but he talks like a farmer so his mouth is the farm we own.
About this School Project (Scratch Board showing Contrast)
Students learned about and drew inspiration from Kerby Rosanes work to create a work of art using scratchboards. In this project, students focused on creating contrast in their work technically. Students created contrast technically using different values. To create different values, students used various shading techniques including hatching, cross-hatching, and stippling.
