About this School Project (Kindergarten - Homes and Greenbriar!)
Kindergarten started the new year by continuing to learn how Art Expresses a Point of View by looking at things that shape and change ones' self. Moving on from how family shapes one's interests and help them to grow, students identified that their home and school are also places that can help keep someone safe, secure, and help them to learn and build knowledge. We used our memories to picture in our minds what our homes look like. Using simple shapes (squares, rectangles, triangles, circles, etc.) students sketched out the image of their home. Students were encouraged to add as many details that they can remember to help make their homes come to life. These were carefully traced with thick and thin Sharpie markers for emphasis. Next, students watercolored their homes with warm colors because symbolically their homes are a place of love and warmth. While the homes dried, students were lead step by step on how to draw an image of Greenbriar. These were also traced with Sharpie markers and watercolored with cool colors. Once both their home and Greenbriar buildings dried, they were carefully cut out and glued onto a rectangular sheet of construction paper. Finally, students used a variety of art tools and materials to create the rest of their neighborhood.
