About this School Project (Still Life)
Students studied artist Georgette Chen (1906-1993) who gained renown as a 20th century Singaporean painter whose sensuous and remarkable practice combined Asian subjects with Western styles and techniques. We identified value, form, color, space, and balance. Students then learned about how to make a successful composition with placement, overlapping, and proportion. The classroom was then transformed with a large still life in the middle and mood lighting. Students then observed and sketched with a view finder and then created their final masterpiece.
