About this School Project (Wire Sculptures)
Third Grade Students studied Ruth Asawa, a Japanese American Artist who grew up on an internment camp. We theorized how she was able to make her sculptures look like they were floating, and I read them the story "A Life Made by Hande" to learn more about her life as an artist. Students were given various wire materials and a foam core block, and were asked to use multiple wire techniques to create an abstract sculpture inspired by Asawa.
DCPS Scope and Sequence:
-Experimentation to build confidence.
