Artist Statement (what Jayden33922 said about their artwork)
For my basket, I used flat reed, round reed, green and white beads. I used round reed for the bottom and flat reed for the top, with some beads, I thought it looked cool. I plan on having this basket hold pencils and pens. I made the basket unique by adding beads to the basket. It’s easy to do, and it was actually fun to do.
About this School Project (Basketry)
Students looked at a variety of handmade baskets, and learned some of the reasons why baskets are made. They learned that virtually every culture in human history has made baskets, and people still make them today as both functional and decorative objects. In fact, woven basketry is nearly always handmade, and not done by a machine.
Students got to choose what materials and methods they used to create their own basket. They were also asked to think about what their basket could be used for, and how they could make it unique and personalized.
