Artist Statement (what Gabriel15760 said about their artwork)
I chose this subject of composition because these three essentials all are important to me. I chose the cup because it is important to stay hydrated and a cup is what can help you do that as it holds water. Secondly, I chose the pencil because I love to do art and a pencil is just what I need to satisfy me when I draw. Lastly, I added a shoe from my keychain because this shoe is one of my favorites it is a cool thing to have and I enjoy having it on me all the time because I think it's a cool look. One of the challenges that I had in making this project was shading because of the sensitivity of the charcoal and how quickly it can darken the art. For instance, when I try to add small details like the shading on the shoe, it can get dark very quickly as just a little bit of pressure can make it pitch black, so it's important to control your pressure and use tools such as the blender and eraser. A joy I had making this was just making the art piece in general. I like art so when I create art it is already a joy to me. I like to shade, add details, and make it to the best of my ability. I think the shoe is pretty symbolic because it is an Air Jordan 1 and it symbolizes fashion, color (although not shown in this art piece), flashiness, and etc. It is symbolic because it is definitely something cool to have on this art piece and gives the art piece a sort of modernness to it and fashion which I think is very cool.
About this School Project (Sem 2-Unit 1 - Three Essentials - HS Intro to A&D)
Students used charcoal techniques to create a still life drawing, size A3 of ‘Three Essentials’. Students brought their own essential items, arranged them into still life compositions, and included a range of subtle values from light to dark.
