About this School Project (Laurel Burch Patterned Cats)
Third grade students had the unique opportunity to learn about self-taught artist, designer, and businesswoman, Laurel Burch. We were inspired by her story of hardship as she grew up unsupported by family for her artistic abilities and also suffered from osteoporosis her entire life. Through all of the hard times in her life, she continued to paint and create joyful, vibrant, and colorful artwork, because her mission in life was to bring joy to people around the world! She was amazing! Students created a painted, patterned cat, which was Laurel's favorite subject to paint. Seeing these beautiful cats come to life was fun! Students added color using fluorescent oil pastels.
