About this School Project (1st Grade - Colorful Hearts)
This Valentine’s Day lesson was inspired by the colorful work of artist Jim Dine. We started with a brief introduction of Jim Dine and his colorful hearts. The first graders then drew a big heart on their papers using a black crayon. Next the students were instructed to fill the whole paper with random brushstrokes of colorful dashes and/or dabs. The final step was for the students to use black oil pastel, trace over their heart shape and use their finger to smudge the oil pastel, which creates a dimensional look.
