Artist Statement (what Isaac24495 said about their artwork)
This piece is a chalk drawing of a spherical shaped jar. I depicted the jar on top of a green platform with a black background. The jar has an entrance at the top but is slanted. To make this piece I used multiple different colored sticks of chalk, and the colors could mix when rubbed or touched. This method could be utilized for filling large spaces of area. Overall, I would rate this piece a nine out of ten because I used the chalk and it looks good.
About this School Project (Dale Chihuly Unit: Sculpture & Chalk Drawing)
Students review the color wheel and learn about the American glass artist Dale Chihuly. Within their selected Color Scheme (warm, cool, analagous, monochromatic, complementary, or analogous) artists draw with Sharpies to create 5 or 6 colorful spirals on recycled plastic- transparency film, laminator plastic (or if using clear plastic bottles- acrylic paint.) Students create individual suncatcher sculptures, group them into color schemes, and finally assemble them into an illuminated Chihuly-style chandelier. The second part of this unit, a chalk drawing develops strategies for creating the illusion of three dimensions on a dark ground, highlights and shadows, elipses and overlapping.
