About this School Project (Basquiat Portraits)
Second Grade Artists took a break from realism to explore the mixed media work of Jean Michel Basquiat. Before and after I read them the story "Radiant Child", we analyzed a work from Basquiat, seeing how our interpretation changed after we learned more about his life. Students used mixed media to create a self portrait, employing mediums like ink, gelli-roll pens, tempera paint, crayons, and marker to create textural interest.
