About this School Project (Pop Art)
Students learned about POP art. Pop art can be anything but common subject matter was every-day or trendy objects/people. Two well known Pop artists we learned about were; Wayne Thiebaud, from California & Andy Warhol from Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. Thiebaud is well known for his paintings of dessert. Andy Warhol painted Cambell’s soup cans and he often used fluorescent colors in his artworks. Student’s chose an object to draw repeatedly and then they painted the objects using several values of a color. To make a light value you add white paint, mix it and it becomes a lighter color, called a tint. To make a dark value you add black paint, mix it and it becomes a darker color, called a shade. To make a medium value, you make grey with black and white and then add a color, this is a tone. Creating tints, tones, and shades with different colors was an important goal for this project. To make the objects POP, they painted the background with contrasting or different colors.
