Artist Statement (what June1977 said about their artwork)
To create this artwork, I started by drawing 100 shapes on my paper using stencils. I then drew 4 vertical lines going across the shorter side of the paper using a ruler. After that I took warm colors using colored pencils to color in my first section. I colored the entire background red and then used the colors yellow and orange to color the shapes. I also ended up using red in a few of the shapes too because of the way some would have been the same color next to each other. It made it so that I didn't have to have the same color overlapping it, I wanted viewers to be able to decipher the difference. The second section I just outlined with an extra thin sharpie, then colored and detailed the overlapping pieces. In the third section I colored cool colors using colored pencils. I colored the background blue, then used purple for the initial shapes, and the rest was green. In the last section I used alcohol markers and in different reds. My least favorite part of this work was how my warm section turned out because of the overlapping not being all the same colors. Another least favorite thing was that I accidentally went over my 2nd section and began into the 3rd section. I was not thinking and my sharpie had gone over the divider. My favorite part was the way it all came together in the final square. Just the finished look had amazed me. My inspiration for creating this artwork was Mrs. G, this is not something I would just think of. I think it turned out cool and it was nice to use different art materials while thinking into important factors like value. Nothing really surprised me during the making of this artwork. The most challenging part was probably the overlapping of warm and cool colors, I second guess myself a few times after messing up in the warms. If I were to make this artwork again, I would try and expand my variety of detail in the black and white, as well as the choice section.
