Artist Statement (what Tinsley435 said about their artwork)
The principle of design we used in this artwork was proportion, proportion is the size relationship of elements in a work of art. A gridded photo is how one item compares to another (the grid method), take a small or large photo and make it proportionally larger or smaller. Chuck Close is an artist that was born in 1940 and died in 2021. In 1988 he was paralyzed and had to learn a new way to continue doing the art he loved. An analogous color scheme is colors that are right next to each other on the color wheel (ex. purple, red, orange)
HUE- where a color is on the color wheel
VALUE- tint - color + white or shade - color + black
INTENSITY- brightness of the color
Complementary colors are the colors that are opposite on the color wheel (always primary and secondary color ex. purple, yellow)
I enjoyed this project because I love using analogous color schemes. I also liked the mix of different mediums (pencil and paint). If I could change something I would change my background making it bigger, so I could use more paint.
About this School Project (Gridded, Filtered Selfie)
The art 2 students learned about the principle of design proportion by studying Chuck Close and Jen Lashbrook in this project. We enlarged a 4x6 photo into a 12x18 by making 1 inch squares into 3 inch squares. We also reviewed the analogous color scheme and picked one to focus on (I allowed rainbow because they are technically right next to each other on the wheel). In order to gain more knowledge about color mixing, we had to understand hue, value, and intensity and how to use these techniques to mix colors. By making tints and shades, we were able to create enough of a contrast for our faces to pop!
