About this School Project (6th Grade Clay Monsters)
In this lesson, 6th grade students will embark on a creative journey to design and sculpt their own ceramic monsters using hand-building techniques. They will learn to use scoring and slipping to ensure strong connections between different clay parts. Once their monsters are assembled, students will allow their creations to dry to a bone dry state before firing them in the kiln. After the initial firing, they will apply a cold finish to enhance the color and texture of their monsters. Through this project, students will gain hands-on experience in both the artistic and technical aspects of ceramic sculpture.
