This intensive second-grade project beautifully blended art and Judaic Studies to celebrate Chanukah. Inspired by vintage Chanukah menorahs in the Bezalel style, students brought history to life in their creations.
In art class with Ms. Cohen, they learned about embossing and engraving, using specialized tools to craft detailed designs on copper foil for their own Chanukiah. Black accents were added to enhance the detailing, giving the pieces an antique finish. With the help of the Makerspace, wooden bases were cut and drilled to complete the structure, and grandparent volunteers graciously assisted with assembling the final pieces.
In Judaic studies, students explored the significance of the Chanukiah, understanding how it differs from the menorah, and diving deeper into the rituals of lighting the Menorah for Chanukiah.
