About this School Project (“The Leaf Thief” Windy Squirrels)
Inspired by the book “The Leaf Thief” by Alice Fleming, kindergarten students created painted paper collages that bring the motion of wind to life. To start, they used shaving cream and liquid watercolor to make marbled prints, capturing the swirling patterns of a windy day. These prints served as the backdrop for their artwork.
Students then assembled collages depicting scenes of fall, layering painted papers to show squirrels, colorful autumn leaves, and the dynamic motion of wind. During the project, they analyzed artwork, observing and discussing how artists represent movement and seasonal changes, fostering critical thinking and observation skills. This project combined art-making with a study of the fall season, sparking creativity and curiosity about the world around them.
