Artist Statement (what Amani841 said about their artwork)
The colors I chose were yellow, blue, and white. There is the sun, waves and a cloud in a
sector. There is also a lightning bolt in the middle.
My flag has 3 colors, there are no letters, and there are no duplicates. The color yellow
represents the sun's power and the blue represents the color white represents the air
and wind. The lightning bolt in the middle shows energy and power. All the colors
surrounding the bolt show the different types of renewable energy.
My flag represents renewable energy. The blue represents the water and the yellow represents
the sun and the white represents the wind. The lightning bolt is supposed to represent energy.
The three types of renewable energy surround it as well.
I had a fun time while learning about vexillology. I learned what was considered a good flag or a
bad flag. I also learned how flags are made.
About this School Project (6th gr JB - Vexillology)
Flag design is often taken for granted, but it is sometimes the only tangible embodiment of abstract ideas like country or state. Which is why the recent abolition of the old Mississippi state flag bearing the Confederate flag in its corner and the adoption of a new flag presents the perfect case study for vexillology - the study of flags. Students learned the 5 principles of good flag design and practiced designing flags using the guidelines from the North American Vexillological Association (NAVA). The finished flags represent issues of social, economic, and climate justice and marginalized identity groups and were composed digitally using Google Drawing.
