About this School Project (1st What's Out the Window?)
1st and I drew a spooky perspective drawing for Halloween. We drew a window from the indoors perspective. We drew the window panes to help them recognize the window and objective of the project... to draw creatures, etc outside in the "yard" (what we would see if looking out the window into the yard) and only what we cAn see: can't draw the whole pumpkin/creature, if a window pane is in the view. This age group, I teach alot on how we put "real life" on a flat piece of paper. How everything will be a "line". Of course It's normal at this age to want to avoid "drawing through" something, so our pencils want to veer off as we get close. To see each pane as its own space, and not a "whole yard". I had them draw the pumpkin in the center. We drew the horizon line above the horizontal pane, with some waves/hills so they could recognize it. I gave them many drawings of characters, etc for ideas. Had to show motion and facial expressions. We put our 'picture of surprise' to help them visually, mostly..but they sure are cute! This was difficult for most! But they ALL pulled through and did a GREAT job!! They were given the choice to draw the room behind them, as I did. They used their best colored pencil coloring skills too. Awesome 1st grade!!!
