About this School Project (Nicho Boxes)
Nicho boxes are a shadow box (3D frame) displaying pictures of deceased loved ones & patron saints, commonly seen in Mexico and the southwestern US. They are made from any small box available. The boxes are very colorful and feature many ORGANIC shapes/forms, such as flowers, vines, and curvy lines. They often have embellishments, such as sequins or tiny flowers. The boxes also can contain items representing the loved one. First grade made nicho boxes from toilet paper tubes, painted them, added embellishments, and created a skull from homemade model magic.
