PROJECT
Create a series of foam prints, inspired by the wood print, The Great Wave Off Kanagawa by Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai. Include key elements in each print such as: Mt. Fuji, the Kanagawa coast, the great wave, as well as other details such as time of day, weather, fisherpeople, carp, dragons, to help tell unique stories such as from the children's book, The Great Wave by Veronique Massenot and Bruno Pilorget.
OBJECTIVES
1. Build familiarity with printmaking. Namely, the tools and processes of Wood Block Printing and Foam Printing
2. Understand a primary purpose of printmaking: to create multiple images of the same picture (series)
3. Differentiate the three parts of a picture: foreground, middleground, background
4. Manipulate elements (people, objects, lines, shapes) in order to communicate a story
5. Develop fine motor skills with carving, ink rolling (brayer), pressing (baron), pulling (a print)
MATERIALS
