About this School Project (1st grade Fall Still Life)
Students in 1st grade discussed how artists use observation to create a “still life.” They learned a still life is a work of art depicting mostly inanimate subject matter, typically commonplace objects which are either natural or man-made. Next, each student practiced drawing from observation by looking at a real pumpkin. Students were asked to pay close attention to the contours of their object and note specific details to include in their drawing such as bumps, texture, color, and value. Last, students selected oil pastels to match the colors of their pumpkin. They were asked to fill in their background with 1 color that would make their pumpkin stand out.
