About this School Project (Frida Kahlo Inspired Self Portrait)
To celebrate Hispanic Artists, First Graders learned about Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. After listening to the story “Frida Kahlo and her Animalitos”, which tells the story of her life and taught students about the various pets she owned. Students then imagined themselves inside of one of Kahlo’s self portraits with an imaginary pet, practicing proportions and accurate features when drawing their face. Students practiced cutting complex shapes, and placing different pieces inside their composition.

· Create figural subjects using basic shapes
· Practice figure placement within a defined space
· Convey an understanding of the organization of parts to a whole
