About this School Project (3D Molas!)
The third grade classes viewed Mola designs from Panama. They compared and contrasted Mola designes - they are mostly various types of animals, including birds, mammals and sea creatures. Their designs are simplified with many layers of color. They were SO amazed at the layers they were able to explore on a Mola piece of art that I brought in. After seeing all the layers and stitches, we discussed how long it likely took the artist to make. They agreed that a collage would be a better choice for the time we have available. They drew their own animal Mola design, then worked on layering colorful paper. They learned transfer, gluing, and layering skills. They really enjoyed this project, and I hope you love them as much as I do!
