Artist Statement (what Char39 said about their artwork)
My artwork is an exploding volcano with lots of live variety and patterns throughout the piece. While making this piece, one inspirational aspect I was thinking of while making this was the famous volcanic eruption of Pompeii. I added lots of line variety to the volcano to make it seem more 3d and textured. To start off my piece, I used red and purple as my analogous colors for the background, but I blacked out a lot of my background because I wanted the volcano to stand out more. Then after I blacked out some background, I added all my line variety and detailed patterns to the volcano itself to make it look more interesting and intricate. However, the real aspect of my piece that tied it all together was the erupting white details and patterns in the background and on the volcano. I wanted the volcano to look as if it was erupting in the present because, obviously, just a volcano is pretty boring and was definitely not what I was going for. If I could add something to my piece, I would add far-off little details in the background and clean up some edges. Overall, I am super proud of my piece.
About this School Project (Watercolor Line Abstractions)
This art experience provided the students the opportunity to learn about textures through watercolor technique and ink line design. We started by exploring the amazing and intricate line-drawing work of contemporary artist Peter Deligdisch. His technique of drawing allows for open-ended and creative outcomes. Each line is deliberate yet unique, forming a complex design.
