About this School Project (2nd Sun Prints)
In this engaging lesson, students explored the intersection of art and science by creating compositions using shapes found in nature. They placed these natural objects onto special Cyanotype paper and exposed them to sunlight.
As the UV rays interacted with the chemicals on the paper, a fascinating transformation occurred: within just 1-5 minutes, the areas covered by the plants turned white, revealing stunning prints in the negative spaces. To preserve these unique artworks, students quickly rinsed the paper in water, halting the chemical reaction.
This hands-on activity not only introduced students to the historical process of cyanotype printing—one of the earliest forms of photography—but also encouraged creativity and an appreciation for the beauty of nature. We look forward to sharing the final results with you!
