Artist Statement (what Amiya420 said about their artwork)
The form of my Greek vase is called a Pyxis. The function of the vase is to hold cosmetics or jewelry. The frieze I painted to decorate the vase shows a spiral. And the illustration is a wedding. This matches the function of the vase because it looks nice with the wedding illustration and the wedding illustration matches what is classically on a pyxis. I painted the frieze in the Black-figure Style
About this School Project (6th gr R Classical Greek Vase)
Classical Greek vases offer the opportunity to consider how form and function are related, and how the decorative imagery on Greek vases fit the context of their use. Among about a dozen different shapes, we saw how vases were painted with Black-figure or Red-figure style scenes that match their purpose. Students created a plan for the design of their vase with decorative border motifs to frame an appropriate central frieze, and then using red clay, constructed their vase forms and painted the frieze with black underglaze.
