About this School Project (4th G Clay Medallions)
Inspired by the sculptures of Augustus St. Gaudens, the students created their own low-relief medallion in clay. They designed a motif that expressed either a quality they value or an image that symbolized something they felt important to them personally. After firing the clay was colored using either oil pastels, and a black tempera paint wash to create strong color contrast, or metallic acrylic paint applied with sponges over a black tempera wash.
