About this School Project (6th-4 House in the Night)
This 6th grade project was inspired by the illustrations of Beth Krommes form the book The House in the Night. Beth Krommes creates her illustrations using scratchboard, where a black surface is scratched to reveal white. To create a similar effect, the 6th graders used black paper, a white colored pencil, and chose one pop of color to cut and paste onto their artwork. For the drawing part, students used hatching, cross-hatching and stippling to add value and depth to their night-time scene. Then they added the principle of emphasis by adding a pop of a bright color. The finished effect is a beautiful high-contrast, unique masterpiece!
