About this School Project (Graffiti Tag)
First, students learned about Graffiti vs. street art and discussed whether we think it's art or vandalism. We watched several videos on the history of graffiti and began our projects. In this lesson, students will practice their thin-to-thick lettering skills and create letters in the style of a graffiti artist. This lesson touches on several art elements and allows students to discuss their perspectives on this unique art form. Students will use color, shape, and texture to create emphasis, making a graffiti tag. After students create their colorful, personalized graffiti name tags, they will place their colorful names on a textured, pre-graffitied wall to emphasize their names! We can apply all of the Elements and principles we have learned so far—line, Shape, Color, Contrast, Pattern, and Emphasis.
