Artist Statement (what SeraSera1 said about their artwork)
My favorite part of this artwork is how the drawing actually looks like the picture of Kiki. I am really proud of myself because I have never drew a portrait of someone and it looks this good and accurate before. My least favorite part of this artwork is the shadow below the nose because it looks inaccurate and it is shaped weirdly. My inspiration for creating this artwork was that; Kiki has been a great friend to me ever since I got to know her and I feel like drawing a portrait of her just makes me reflect on the good things she’s done to help me. If I could create this artwork again, I would reshape her face a bit more accurately because the shape of her face isn’t really like the original picture. Some of the concepts I learned while creating this artwork was how to blend black and white together to create shadows and where to place those shadows. I was super surprised about how it turned out looking a lot like Kiki since this is my first time drawing a portrait using charcoal. The steps of creating this artwork was; I first had to grid the photo so that I could get the right measurements for certain parts of the picture. Secondly, I transferred it onto the final paper in pencil. Lastly, I actually drew the portrait using charcoal.
