About this School Project (4 Van Gogh Leaves and Insects)
We looked at Van Gogh's "Great Peacock Moth" painting to inspire us for this painting. We discussed how he used outlines, let his brush strokes show, and used multiple colors of green, especially dark green for the leaves in the background. Students went to Krohn Conservatory to view and draw living leaves. Back at school, students used organic lines to draw a variety of leaves of different sizes and at different angles, and then painted them with different greens. Each student chose an insect to draw realistically on a separate paper. Those were cut out, and attached to the paintings with interesting placements and angles.
