About this School Project (2nd - Gyotaku)
Second grade learned about the ancient Japanese method of fish printing called “Gyotaku”. It was invented to record the size and species of fish caught by fisherman. Students were asked to use creativity and collage to create a scene for their fish. They could choose to either sign near name in Japanese, research the food their fish ate and incorporate that into their design, or both.
