About this School Project (3rd G Clay Creatures (Folded Form Technique) (copy))
3rd Grade classes explored the 'Folded Form' modeling technique in red clay. This involves rolling out a clay slab, cutting out a flat animal form using a template, and then folding the clay to make it 3 dimensional and adding details to individualize the creature.
After firing, the red clay is decorated in oil pastels and then dipped in black tempera paint to create a striking color contrast. To finish a coat of acrylic sealer is applied to protect the surface and give it a shine - which also enhances the color!
