Artist Statement (what Ryan56135 said about their artwork)

My favorite part of the artwork was how smooth it turned out, which is also the most suprising part of the piece. I was real worried it would be sharp on the ends, and put a lot of effort into making sure the edge was smooth, and im happy with how it turned out. My inspiration was the cloche we have in my kitchen and the day we started this project, my sister made us little mini peanut butter cookies that were really good and so I decided to make a plate for the next time she makes them. If I had to do this again, I would probably change the glaze color because it looks like a toad skin and glaze the bottom of it after the original glaze had dried because I didnt realize the texture would be that drasticly different on the bottom when I didnt glaze it. I learned alot about scoring and slipping in this project because I had to add alot of clay to the edge so that it wouldnt cut people’s hands. To create this piece, I made a clay slab with the rolling pin and the wood, and then cut it into a circle and added a design. Then I slightly curved the ends up so that it looked more like a plate and less like a weird tile. Then because the corners on the edges were really sharp, I used a ribbon loop tool to create long smooth strips of clay and then scored and slipped them onto the edges so that they wouldnt be super sharp.
