About this School Project (3rd Grade Radial Weaving)
Building on their knowledge from their weaving introduction in second grade, third graders learn how to create and warp their own loom! They spent the first two class periods painting their loom (a paper plate).
They looked at Wassily Kandinsky’s “Squares with Concentric Circles” and practiced painting with controlled strokes. They discussed good craftsmanship and thoughtfully painted smaller patterned details on their painted backgrounds.
Once they warped their own looms, they set to weaving in a circular motion and continued working until they were happy with the diameter of their weaving!
