About this School Project (Ink and Brush Still Life)
Our 7/8th grade elective art students worked with ink and brush to capture several potted still life. Connections and inspiration were provided by artists' Henri Matisse and Ellsworth Kelly’s plant drawings. Matisse and Elsworth used plants to study their line and shape. These two famous artists' drawings were compared side by side in a Saint Louis Exhibition at the Saint Louis Art Museum. Every artist has a certain style of handling their media as it is exhibited in our students. Watercolor was then added to a few of the students' still life. Emphasis was placed on observation, line, space, shape, and control of the ink on brush. No preliminary sketching was involved.
