About this School Project (4-B Faith Ringgold inspired Collages)
Faith Ringgold was born on October 8, 1930 in Harlem, New York. She grew up in the Great Depression. Her mother taught her to sew, and Ringgold went on to use quilt making as art to tell stories of her life. One of her most famous quilts is Tar Beach. This famous quilt was an inspiration for the 4th grade collages. Students manipulated different types of printed papers paper into shapes to create a cohesive composition based on Tar Beach. As Ringgold says, It's very easy, anyone can fly. All you need is somewhere to go that you can't get to any other way. The next thing you know, you're flying among the stars."
