About this School Project (African Mud Print Painting)
Students learned about the painting and print making method used by some villages in Africa call Mud painting:. In Africa they will take different color muds and create patterns and designs on fabric. Then they apply the mud, let it dry out in the sun. Then when the mud is dried and can be dusted off the pigment of the mud stays on the fabric.
We did not get to create in the same manner but students created six different patterns on a paper divided into six sections. Then they use crayons that are more natural colors found in soil and mud. They were encouraged to not use the same color side by side so there would be a greater variety of colors on their paper. Then once they were happy with their patterns and coloring they used a watered down black ink to wash over their entire paper.
