About this School Project (1st Grade Symmetrical Butterflies)
1st grade students painted symmetrical butterflies! Students discussed symmetry in their own words and also the parts of an insect body. Next, students watched a demonstration on how to create a transfer of an image from one side of the paper to the other side, using a black acrylic wash. After creating the lines of the butterfly using the transfer technique, students added color to their butterfly wings using the concept of symmetry to make the wings match, and a single color for all body parts.
