About this School Project (3rd- Botanical Batik)
As students in the third grade studied rainforests, we began to learn about Batik. Batik is a process of using wax resist to dye fabric. Looking at plants we noticed that God created flowers with symmetry and that we could use geometric shapes to help us draw petals and leaves accurately. Once our design was drawn, students laid their fabric over the drawing and traced lines with Elmer’s glue. After drying, acrylic paint was added. Finally, the fabric was soaked and washed to reveal our designs. Students also painted their drawings.
