Artist Statement (what Emily57806 said about their artwork)
I chose Easter as my celebration, because Easter is so fun, and I just love spring. Three of the symbols on my mask are bunnies, eggs, and flowers. I chose these just because they all symbolize spring, and are traditional Easter symbols.
About this School Project (Arch - Mask Additive Sculpture)
The 7th grade students view and discuss a powerpoint displaying a variety of masks from multiple cultures with a focus on the purpose and uses of the masks within those cultures. Then the students brainstormed a cultural celebration that is meaningful to them to use as the focus of their mask. (Some students chose an alternate theme) They conceptualized and sketched symbols to represent their celebration as well as the contour shape of the mask. They create their mask using the cardboard, 'cloud clay' and a patina of acrylic paint. The results are very meaningful and look incredible.
