Step 1: Artists watched short demonstration of project. Focus: experimented with color mixing using oil pastels on paper. Instructed not to use black or too much blue.
Step 2: Artists did observational discussion of Van Gogh's Starry Night. Discussed how art could be more than just "seeing." Through quiet observation, the artists focused on the work to see what they could "hear" or "smell" or "feel."
Step 3: Artists covered oil pastel with blue paint and created their own artwork, focusing on what inspired them from our discussion.
