About this School Project (4 Double Portraits)
To inspire us for this project, we looked at Thomas Gainsborough's William and Edward Tomkinson from Cincinnati's Taft Museum of Art. For comparison, we looked at Winslow Homer's Boys in a Pasture. We used a Venn Diagram to list similarities and differences. For the project, students were asked to draw a double portrait of two people, one of them being themselves. We discussed how to draw a person realistically with correct proportion and scale. Students were asked to give clues in the artwork to let the viewer know how they are related (siblings, friends, teammates, etc.), and also included a specific setting.
